Sa ulat ng GMA News TV "Balitanghali" nitong Biyernes, sinabing bukod sa mga nabiktima ng manloloko, may mga OFW din na tumakas sa kani-kanilang amo at mayroon din mga OFW na ibinalik doon ng kanilang mga banyagang employer.Sa dami ng mga OFW, nagsisiksikan umano sila sa isang shelter ng konsulado ng Pilipinas, at pahirapan din umano ang kanilang pagkain.Ang isang Pinay na galing sa UAE at nakabalik na sa bansa, nanawagan na matulungan ang mga kababayan naiwan doon."Hindi na lang para sa akin, concerned na lang po ako roon sa mga naiwan. Iyon nga po ang sabi nilang lahat, kami pong mga nakauwi ang makatutulong sa kanila," saad ng Pinay.Sa hiwalay na ulat ng "24 Oras," inilahad ng Philippine Overseas Labor Office sa Dubai na nasa mahigit 300 OFWs na lang ang nasa kanilang welfare office.Naayos na umano ang mga papeles ng ibang Pinoy at nakauwi na sa Pilipinas, at may mga uuwi pa sa susunod na linggo.Inaayos na rin ang mga papeles ng iba pang naiwan.SOURCE: GMA

The identification card for OFWs who are active members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) was finally released. It is referred to as OFW e-Card. This identification card can also be used as an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) for OFWs who exits the country.

It was the first to launch last November 2018 and over the past few months, it is expected that with the use of it, the transaction of different government agencies will be a lot smoother and faster. It can also be used to waive fees like terminal and travel tax fees.

To be able to apply for an OFW e-Card, you need these requirements:

Valid Passport
Valid OEC
Active OWWA Membership

OFWs are reminded that the OFW e-Card is free of charge. You just need to fill up the required form through the OWWA website and get the OFW card at the OWWA Regional Welfare Office as per your convenience.

TAKE NOTE: This OFW e-Card is yet to be available for newly hired OFWs because it is still on its first phase of implementation. OWWA will announce an update as to the release of this ID card to all OFWs.

Over time, it is expected that more advantages will be available to OFWs who will get their OFW card. Returnee OFWs are also advised to acquire their ID card if they come home to the Philippines for vacation

Good News: OWWA Sets Up Assistance Desks For OFW e-CARD Queries

If you have queries and related questions regarding the OFW e-CARD, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has provided an assistance desk at three passenger terminals in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

These assistance desks are established through the help of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). The main goal is to give important information to all OFWs who would like to ask questions regarding the OFW e-Card as well as its benefits once acquired.

With an OFW e-CARD at hand, you can have access to several OWWA services including social benefits, professional training, welfare services, scholarship, and livelihood programs. Aside from that, this card will serve as a valid government-issued identification card that can allow transactions to be it with private institutions or government agencies. This will also reduce the documentary requirements of OFWs once they have this card.

Reminder from OWWA

OFW e-CARD is free of charge as long as you have a valid Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), an OWWA membership and valid passport.

To get this card, you can send your application to the official OWWA website at www.owwa.gov.ph. OFWs can claim the card upon their return to the Philippines or a family member can claim the card as long as they have the authorization letter from the OFW relative and the OFW’s passport copy.
